When you are planning a wedding or a commitment ceremony, a worship service or a spiritual retreat—any event in which you invest heart and soul—don’t you deserve to work with someone who will also invest heart and soul? Owen Borda doesn’t come with a pre-established formula or set package to offer. Instead he approaches each event as a unique expression of ideas, values, and emotions.
Count on Owen to listen to what you envision, to help you give shape to that vision, and then work hard to bring it to life. He will bring to the task his artistry, sensitivity, and passion for details. And he will draw on a wide range of talent—everyone from researchers of religious tradition to florists and caterers—to ensure that each element of your event is flawless, that the entire experience is seamless.
Owen’s approach reflects the uncommon path that he has followed. He has a Master of Music degree from Kent State University and has studied at the Juilliard School of Music and the Peabody Conservatory of Music. He was trained in theology at the Maryknoll School of Theology, Hartford Seminary, and Seton Hall University.
Owen has served as Director of Music at the First Congregational Church in Danbury, Connecticut, and as Director of Music and Liturgy for several Roman Catholic parishes, including Saint Theresa's in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and Saints John and Paul in Larchmont, New York. He has worked with various religious communities to plan and organize special events, such as the 2003 Convocation of the Marist Brothers of the United States.
In addition to his work in music ministry, he lives his commitment to Christian witness by applying his skills and faith in the world of public health. He serves as HIV/AIDS policy advisor to the Westchester County Commissioner of Health and develops and delivers training to health providers in the New York metropolitan area.
He is skilled in coordinating and giving retreats and has been a presenter at local and national meetings. He has also served as director of “The World Sings,” an innovative, multicultural, inter-religious, after-school music education program for children in Danbury, Connecticut.
Owen Borda was Westchester County Sub-Dean of the American Guild of Organists and is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
Professional musician, liturgist, planner: Owen Borda is ready to work with you.
